Barmouth is a small town located just outside the south west of Snowdonia National Park. Barmouth lies between  the mountains of Snowdonia and the west coast of wales. Barmouth Beach is located on the west coast of Wales in Snowdonia national park just a short walk from the town centre the beach has spectacular views of the mountains behind the town and the vast wide open sea to the west.

The panorama walk starts in Barmouth and most runs parallel to the Mawddach Estuary this walk has sensational views of the estuary and the mountains in the backdrop.

Cadair Idris

Barmouth Harbour

Barmouth Harbour holds rich history of the harbour town being one of the largest boat centres in Wales between the 18th and 19th century. Today the harbour is mainly used for leisure boats.

Cadair Idris

Cadair Idris is a mountain located in south Snowdonia in the  Meirionydd area of Gwynedd, Wales.  Cadair Idris is a peak, which is one of the most popular in Wales for hikers.

Precipice Walk

The Precipice Walk is one of the most popular walks in southern Snowdonia, the walk can be started from Barmouth. This trail is fairly low level but is surrounded by the tranquil scenery Snowdonia has to offer.

The Mawddach Trail

The Mawddach Trail is a long hike or cylcle route that starts in Dolgllau and finishes in Barmouth. The trail extents between these two locations along Afon Mawddach estuary for 15km. The route takes in the impeccable scenery of Snowdonia.

Walks In Barmouth

Barmouth is a very popular area just outside Snowdonia with plenty of people passing  by and staying every day. The Snowdonia national park is one of the best places in the UK for adventurous activities hiking being one of them. Barmouth offers sea view walks and mountain walks as it is surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.  There is a variety of walks around Barmouth varying in difficulty and length to suit beginner hikers and more experienced hikers. Below are some of the breath taking walks within the Barmouth area that the Snowdonia National Park has to offer. 

Barmouth Hiking Trails

1. Panorama Walk

Distance -      3.4 km

Time -                1 h

Elevation -      141 m

Difficulty -       Easy

This short walk starts from Panorama Road it starts and takes you into Coed Glan-y-Mawddach via the Panorama Walk up to the viewpoint on Ffridd Gorllwyn, from this location you will get stunning views of Mawddach estuary. Find this route here

2. Mawddach Trail 

Distance -      23.2 km

Time -                5 h 

Elevation -      289 m

Difficulty -       Moderate

The Mawddach Trail starts in Dolgellau and ends in Barmouth the route is an out and back route which follows the Mawddach estuary along its southern banks. The path is one of the most accessible routes in the whole of Snowdonia although the route is long in distance you are able to shorten this route considering it is an out and back route with not much gradient at all. 3. Ffridd Y Graig

Distance -      6.8 km

Time -                2.30 h

Elevation -      352 m

Difficulty -       Easy

This great walk starts in Barnmouth and heads to the summit of Ffridd y Graig. From the summit you can see amazing views in all directions from the sea to the mountains. This trail starts in Barmouth along the Mawddach estuary and takes you past the disused quarry when you start the ascent. Find this route here

4. Cadair Idris

Distance -      9.3 km

Time -                4.30 h

Elevation -      707 m

Difficulty -       Hard

There are a few different routes up Cadair Idris one of the easiest and closest to Dolgellau is the pony path. The route up is steady and fairly easy to navigate. It's one of the most popular routes up Cadair Idris and offers incredible views along the way. This walk is perfect for beginner hikers. Find this route here

5. Precipice Walk

Difficulty -       Easy

The Precipice Walk is one of the most popular walks in southern Snowdonia, the trail follows exploring the hills surrounding Llyn Cynwch. The Precipice walk is easily accessible and is a perfect low level family walk it provides great views of the immediate area of Snowdonia. Find this route here
