The Linn of Dee is a gorge in which the river dee flows through towards Aberdeen, the Linn of dee is most famous as being the picnic spot of Queen Victoria.

Walks In Braemar

Braemar is a popular area in the Cairngorms national park with people passing by and staying every day. Braemar is one of the best places in the UK for adventurous activities. Braemar is surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, it is home to some of the most popular walks Cairngorms. There is a variety of walks around Braemar varying in difficulty and length to suit beginner hikers and more experienced hikers. Below are some of the breath taking walks within the Braemar area that the national park has to offer. 

Braemar Hiking Trails

1. Carthie easter balmoral and cairns

Distance -      10.5 km

Time -                3  h

Elevation -      376 m

Difficulty -       Moderate

This trail takes in a number of the cairns in which commemorate members of the British Royal family on the Balmoral estate. Most of the cairns on this path were commissioned by Queen Victoria to commemorate the lives of various family members. This route has rich history and is a fairly moderate walk. 2. Creag Choinnich

Distance -      6.8 km

Time -                2.5  h

Elevation -      325 m

Difficulty -       Easy

This trail takes you to the summit of Creag Chinnich which stand over Braemar. The summit views are incredible with the enormous Cairngorm mountains towering above. On the route down you will follow the river dee and walk past the iconic Breamar castle. Find this route here

3. Derry Lodge and Linn of Dee

Distance -      11.6 km

Time -                3 h

Elevation -      275 m

Difficulty -       Easy

This low level out and back route from The linn of Dee to the derry lodge is a stunning walk which takes in the surrounding and towering mountains as you walk through the valley. The walk follows the banks of the Lui Water, through the valley until you reach derry lodge. Find this route here
