Lochinver is a small fishing village located far north west in the Scottish Highlands.  Lochinver is a very quanit village with the iconic Suilven mountain overlooking the village.​ Lochinver is famous for quite a few things including its famous pottery shops, pies, local sandy beaches and recognizble stand alone mountain Suilven.

Things To Do In Lochinver

Suilven

Suliven is an iconic stand alone mountain, it is known for its odd dome shape in which you can see from the village of Lochinver. The mountain stands at 731m high.

Stac Pollaidh

Stac Pollaidh is a stand alone mountain near Lochinver. The rocky peak of the mountain has many pinnicales and gullies from weathering back in the ice age. The summit of Stac Pollaidh is 612m.​

Suilven
Achmelvich Beach

Achmelvich Bay

Achmelvich Beach is a white sandy beach with turquoise seas it is a popular spot for water sking, windsurfing and kayaking. Achmelvich beach is a busy during the summer months.

Highland Stoneware

Highland stoneware is popular pottery shop located in Lochinver and established in 1974. In Scotland you can find many or Highlands stonewares designs scattered around the  country in  indepentadant shops.

Walks In Lochinver

Lochinver is a popular secluded area in the Scottish Highlands with people passing by and staying every day. Lochinver is one of the best places in the UK for adventurous activities. Lochinver is surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and stunning west coast of Scotland it is home to some of the most popular walks in the Scottish Highlands. There is a variety of walks around Lochinver varying in difficulty and length to suit beginner hikers and more experienced hikers. Below are some of the breath taking walks within the Lochinver area that the highlands has to offer. 

Lochinver Hiking Trails

1. Suilven

Distance -      20.1 km

Time -                8 h

Elevation -      1149 m

Difficulty -       Hard

This long out and back route to the summit of Suliven starts in the village of Lochinver. The first part of this trail is fairly low level until you reach the base of Suilven the track is clear and offers amazing scenery. Once at the base you begin the steep climb up to the summit, you will reach a small plateau then finally head up to the western peak to the true summit of Suilven. Find this route here

2. Stac Pollaidh

Distance -     4 km

Time -               2.5 h

Elevation -     456 m

Difficulty -      Moderate

This route up Stac Pollaidh is a short but phenomenal trail. The path starts at the base of the mountain and starts to ascent straight away, you will reach the plateau false summit in around an hour of walking. there is then a smaller peak to the east and the summit peak to the right. If heading up to the true summit care is needed as there is no clear path and there will be some tricky scrambling up gullies to get there. Find this route here

3. Lochinver To Achmelvich Beach

Distance -      14.3 km

Time -                3.5 h

Elevation -      309 m

Difficulty -       Moderate

This trail to Achmelvich beach is a low level out and back route. Along this route you will pass two lochs consisting of Loch Dubh and Loch Roe before reaching the stunning white sandy beach. The path to Achmelvich is clear some of which is on the roads. Find this route here
